I’ve celebrated Mother’s Day my whole life. I have a lot to be thankful for in my
wonderful mom. I also have the pleasure of having two inspiring grandmothers, a loving mother-in-law, and a sweet sister who have paved the way in showing me motherhood. But this year, I crossed the line into celebrating the day as a mother. It was not just a chance to be showered with gifts (although it was quite fun to wake up to a few of my favorite things from Zion-aka my husband) but more a shift in gratitude for all the mamas in my life, especially my own.
Loving Zion takes all of me. And the joy is the fullest reward. But the fierce protection I feel for him – the way I want more than the best for him – has me in awe of the lifetime of sacrifice my mother has given in the name of her children.
I now understand that love. And treasure it more.
For Mother’s Day Weekend, Zion and I spent time at Reiman Gardens with my mom, sister, nephew, and Grandma soaking in one of the first summer days and smelling the blooms. And photos – yes, we documented. (Full post here!)
Then, on Mother’s Day, Adam and I had the honor of dedicating Zion to the Lord and His will for Our son’s life. With our families and church, we committed to the following:
“Today, in the presence of God and the local gathering of believers at Cornerstone Church of Ankeny, we commit to fulfill our biblically established role as parents by raising our child in the training and instruction of the LORD. We submit ourselves first and foremost to Jesus Christ and his Lordship in our lives, and we also submit to the equipping, encouragement, and accountability of this local church. Today, we present our child before God, trusting the Lord to glorify Himself through our child’s life.”
I can’t fully comprehend this gift of motherhood. But my joy just continues to increase, and for that, my heart delights.
