I’m in denial that we are closing in on the first birthday – 3 months before we’ll have a one-year-old! So we’re savoring all of his babyhood. I know it will be behind us soon!
Zi is all about clapping! He’s gotten good at it, and looks so proud when he does it! Probably because we all cheer and clap back when he does! Peek-A-Boo is another fun, new game to play with him to get that adorable 1-tooth grin. He also started “flexing” his muscles. If you start it, he’ll copy you – squeezing his fists and body. Adam’s dad – his Papa – taught him this trick!
To the Beat of His Own Drum
Zion is on the move. Quick, busy, and moving “his way”. His crawl is a combo of one foot and one knee. It’s always the left foot. Now that he can move, he is pulling up to everything, cruising by furniture and determined to get his hands on all things he shouldn’t. I’ve decided that outlets should have been designed to be up higher, not at a baby’s eye level – why the fascination with these? Other things that seize his attention: cords, trash cans, sunscreen caps. No joke, the lid to his sunscreen is pretty much his favorite thing. Watch out when you try to take it away. 😂
He’s had 1 tooth for maybe a month and a half! Finally, #2 is entering the scene. Bottom row, middle, you can see it just under the gum.
Blonde with the Curls
Zion’s hair has really started to grow. And these locks are BLONDE. We weren’t too surprised – Adam and I both had blonde hair as babes. It also has a little curl to it. We are loving it!
Loathing the life jacket
July has been full of boating. Between a staff retreat at Lake Ponderosa, a day a Saylorville, camping at Lake Red Rock, and family vacation at Clear Lake, Zion has been well acquainted with the water. What he hasn’t so much welcomed is the life jacket! You really can’t blame him, babies already have minimal necks and the life jacket just makes the situation worse. 😂 We made it through and had some laughs. Luckily at Clear Lake, we could keep the jacket off most of the time while hanging on the Pontoon. (Vacation will have its own post! – we took lots of photos!)
4th of July
Zion celebrated the 4th of July in style. We had numerous family gatherings that consisted of potlucks and being outside. He got to hang with his baby cousins & friends, witness his first firework display – which he was mostly mesmerized by – and stay up late (because of said fireworks).
If you’ve followed the blog you know that Zion frequents weddings, as we are wedding photographers and he ONLY breastfeeds. 😉 So although Zi shows up on wedding days to eat, this month was the first wedding he attended as an invited guest! Us too, actually! It was lovely to watch our friends Austin & Lauren become husband and wife and enjoy a beautiful evening.
We’re continuing with solids, baby-led style. Fruits are his favorite to squish. Especially watermelon. He destroys it. This month we tried a few new items in addition to the fruits and veggies from the last few months. He seemed to get into steak, cucumber (from Aunt Chelsea’s garden) and tomatoes (from Uncle Tony & Aunt Laura’s garden). He’s getting spoiled with these yummy home-grown veggies! I also purchased some veggie “puffs” the other day. Everyone raves about these since they melt in their mouth. Stay tuned for Zion’s review.
Not much has changed in the sleeping department. I still lay him down in his crib after nursing at bedtime (between 8-9p). He still usually wakes up in his crib before we go to bed – the 30-40 minute mark is the most common. Through the night, he’s in bed with us, and wakes up a few times. Most nights I couldn’t tell you how many times because I’m half asleep through it 😜 He still seems to do best with 3 naps, each lasting an hourish.
